I am so relieved

poly.jpg On my company's announcement board I found the following note:

Employers are generally prohibited from requiring or requesting any employee or job applicant to take a lie detector test, and from discharging, disciplining, or discriminating against an employee or prospective employee for refusing to take a test or for exercising other rights under the Act.
There is a law that protects eomployees called the Employee Polygraph Protection Act of 1988 (EPPA). I feel better already.
Please note that is still legal to have your employees do a drug test or even not employ any smoking employees (See this discussion, too.)

Adoption

I am now the proud godfather of a naked mole rat (Heterocephalus glaber)!

Adoption certificate

I adopted the naked mole rat from Lincoln Park Zoo! And didn't only get the adoption paper and the small picture, but also this fabulous cuddly stuffed version:

Isn't it adorable?!

Old Gallery Move

Since my private ISP Thomas refurbished his Server I took the opportunity to update my Gallery with the latest Release Candidate and move it to a new location:
gallery.bezauberer.de

The new software has still some issues, but eventually most important albums will be moved to the new server anyway (which is gallery-old.timmylein.com).

(without an opener of course)
Since twist off bottle caps have not yet made it to Germany we need other more creative approaches to getting to the good stuff.
This site strives to document 1000 ways of opening a beer bottle - the latest method involves a can of lip balm:

You shouldn't

I booked my flight from SEA to MUC two days ago at priceline.com.
But yesterday I did, what I shouldn't have done. I searched again for the same flight - this time via cheaptickets.com and found the same flight $100 cheaper :(

When I tried to cancel my booking at priceline thay said they couldn't do it at night, but when I looked at cheaptickets in the morning the flight was gone :(

Redefining Yellow Pages

A9.com and Amazon.com launched another very cool feature:
Yellow Pages on A9.com

With the help of a truck-mounted camera they captured businesses in 10 major American cities. E.g. see the detailpage of
C & P Coffee Company
Our favourite Coffee Shop
.
We already found out: Having a good map is one thing, but actually having seen the storefront makes the finding much easier!

I live here

Wow again for Google:
See where I live on maps.google.com.
This has the potential to become my new favourite map site. I had been using maps.yahoo.com until now, but I like Google much more - Especially the easy link option on every results page:
E.g. this is my way to work.

And only last week did I write about Google Video.

Digging strange creatures

The Star-Nosed Mole (lat. Condylura cristata) looks like a pretty hideous creature out of a horror movie. Especially if you know that they are incredibly fast eaters. But since thay are only up to 8" (2cm) long (including tail) they are not even remotely scary;)

Read more about this strange creature:

By the way: Today I adopted a naked mole rat from Lincoln Park Zoo! The Star-Nosed Mole might be almost as strange, but I still like the Naked Mole Rat better ;)

Something new from Amazon

I think this is pretty cool:
Amazon Prime is a new shipping subscription: You pay $79 once a year and get most items in shipped within the US in 2 days. Or you pay $3.99 for next day shipping.
This also brings the advantage that you don't have to wait for enough items so you can score Super Saver Shipping and you can share thos benefits with up to 4 family / household members ;)
Let the shopping commence!
